Boston GuitarFest Schedule

Competition

Boston GuitarFest XIX

The BGFest XIX Academy Performance Competition is only open to registered participants in the Academy program. Participant’s active attendance at the festival is required. Prize winners should submit a copy of their government ID before registering for the competition.

Rules

  • First round: Participants must submit a video made specifically for the BGFest XIX Academy Performance Competition. Candidates should introduce themselves and the pieces they will play at the beginning of the recording. The verbal introduction shall include "this is my recording for the 2024 Boston GuitarFest Academy performance competition. A poster saying "2024 Boston GuitarFest Competition" should be visible behind you for the duration of the video.
    • Repertoire: Perform two constrasting pieces from the sixteenth to the twenty-first centuries for a total duration of 12 to 15 minutes.
    • Video Requirements: The recording must consist of one unedited take with clear audio and image quality from a fixed camera position, preferably straight in front of the performer. The performer’s face, hands, and the entire guitar should be clearly visible in the video. A poster saying "2024 Boston GuitarFest Competition" should be visible behind you for the duration of the video.
    • Video submission deadline: May 27th, 2024.
    • Finalists will be announced on: June 9th, 2024 (subject to revision).
  • Second/Final Round: The four finalists should select a new program (not to include works performed in the first round) of their choice, about 20 minutes in length. The final round will be held live on June 26th, 2024, at 3pm-6pm, in Cambridge, MA, exact location TBA. This is a public performance.
  • The decisions of the jury are final.
  • The first prize winner would be performing at the Boston GuitarFest final concert on Sunday, June 30th, 2024, location TBA, at 3 PM. The program should be around 30 minutes long. This is a public performance.
