Youth Performance Competition
Schedule
- Preliminary round: Saturday, June 20, 9am–2pm, President’s Library in Jordan Hall (NEC)
Semifinal round: Saturday, June 20, 3:30–5:30pm, President’s Library in Jordan Hall (NEC)
Final round: Sunday, June 21, 12:30pm–1:45pm, Brown Hall (NEC)
Eligibility
- Competitors in Division 1 (Senior Division) must be high school students under 18 years of age.
- Division 2 (Junior Division) competitors must be under 15 years of age.
- Young Guitarists Workshop participants can enter the competition for free, but must also be available for YGW activities during the week.
Prizes
- Division I (Senior)
- 1st Prize: $750 + full pass to 2016 festival + performance at the 2016 YGW faculty concert
- 2nd Prize: $400 + full pass to 2016 festival
- 3rd Prize: $200 + 50% discount to 2016 festival
- 4th Prize: 50% discount to 2016 festival
- Division II (Junior)
- 1st prize: YGW trophy + full pass to 2016 festival + performance at the 2016 YGW faculty concert
- 2nd prize: YGW trophy + full pass to 2016 festival
- 3rd prize: YGW trophy + 50% discount to 2016 festival
- 4th prize: YGW trophy + 50% discount to 2016 festival
Performance Requirements
- Competitors have free choice of pieces from standard repertoire, and may repeat selections from round to round.
- All music must be performed on a classical guitar.
- Selections must be played from memory.
- Division I (Ages 15–17)
- Preliminary round: 5–7 min
- Semifinal round: 7–10 min
- Final round: 10–12 min
- Division II (Ages 6–14)
- Preliminary round: 3–5 min: two contrasting works
- Semifinal round: 5–7 min
- Final round: 7–10 min
