David Martínez

David Martínez García was born in Granada in 1975. He began his musical studies at the age of seven, receiving his first lessons of musical language from his father, who at the time was acting as singer soloist of the Choir of the Conservatoire of Granada. He holds high academic honors, including an elementary degree and of professional degree (1987 and 1991). He concluded his studies (1993) under the direction of the professor Carmelo Martínez in the Superior Conservatoire of Music “Victoria Eugenia” of Granada. Likewise he is a holder of the silver medal from the Young Interpreters of Musical Youths of Granada in 1992.

After concluding his studies in Spain, he was accepted as member of the Meisterklase by the University of the Mozarteum de Salburgo (Austria),to study with Joaquín Clerch and Eliot Fisk, as well as the Hochschule fur Musik of Munich (Germany) with the teachers Joaquín Clerch and K. Elghuber (Baroque music). He has taken courses of development with teachers David Russell, Hugo Geller, Jose Tomás, Iván Rijos, and Anthony Spiri.

Since the age of twelve he has performed continuously with orchestras (including Orchestra of the Higher Conservatoire of Music of Granada, Young Woman Orchestras of Castile La Mancha, Orchestra Philharmonic of Kharkov Ukraine, Orchestra of the City of Granada, National Orchestra of Cuba, Orchestra Symphonic of the Vallés, Concerto Málaga, National Symphony of Syria), and has been directed by conductors such as Enrique Perez Mesa, Massimo Paris, and Edmon Colomer. In solo work, he emphasizes concerts representing the whole of Spanish geography, performing in international guitar competitons, in the Festival de Música y Danza de Granada, and on tours in Germany, Egypt, the United States, Portugal, Norway, Chile, Romania, Moldávia, Cuba, Syria, and Turkey.

David Martínez has won more than fifteen international prizes, including Plasencia (1996), Comillas (1996), Velez Málaga (1997), “Andrés Segovia” of Linares (1997), “Villa de Puente Genil” (2000), “Ciudad de Coria” (2001), “Andrés Segovia” de La Herredura, Almuñecar” (2004), “Julián Arcas” de Almeria (2004), and the first prize at the “Francisco Tárrega” of Benicassim (2004).

He recorded his first disc in Toronto (Canada) for the record company Naxos; it has been distributed in more than 50 countries to critical acclaim in magazines such as Classical Guitar and Pace. Currently, he occupies a chair in the Conservatorio Superior of Music of Malaga, work that he does alongside concerts and classes that he gives nationally and Internationally. Additionally, he is recording of a disc of transcriptions for guitar, and giving concerts in Cuba, Turkey, Japan (2014), as well as featuring in festivals such as the International Festival of Guitar Ciutat d’Elx, Boston GuitarFest, Festival of Koblenz (Germany), and Coria’s International Festival.

David Martínez has participated many television and radio programs including Radio Nacional de España, National Turkish Radio, Canal Sur, Channel 2 of Andalucía, National Television of Turkey and others. Presently, David Martínez is teaching at the Conservatorio Superior in Málaga.
