Alan Carruth

Alan Carruth has been a luthier for over forty years. His experience building and repairing a wide range of instruments in that time has given him valuable insights into the art and practice of making Classical guitars. In addition he has conducted his own scientific research into various aspects of the guitar, ranging from the physics of strings to the effects of adding ‘sound ports’. Alan has had a long interest in the use of ‘local’ woods, which has become more relevant with the recent legal changes pertaining to endangered species. For this show he will be featuring a new guitar primarily made of North American wood, with a ‘recurved bevel’ cutaway that allows for easy high fret access with little or no affect on the sound of the guitar.”

Jeroen Hilhorst

My life is dedicated to making classical concert guitars that sound as beautiful and powerful as possible. Please read the following information as you please, and get an idea of what I am making.

The strong points of my classical concert guitars are: Playing in large halls and playing together with other instruments (because of the powerful sound), More interesting interpretations (because of the wide dynamic range and the inspiring sound), Better legato and better polyphonies (because of the long sustain), Easier playing because of the efficient use of the energy, the powerful sound and the elevated fingerboard. My guitars are played by some of the best guitarists as well as by amateurs, in many countries all over the world.

Bruno Boutin

I was 13 years old when I first got my hands on a guitar. This first encounter was followed by classical guitar training. I built my first classical guitar in 1976 and my first acoustic flat top in 1984; 120 other creations have followed since then. Self taught, I was inspired by a famous French guitar maker, Daniel Friederich, that I had the immense pleasure of meeting in Paris. By his side, I had the chance to learn certain craftsmanship methods that create outstanding sonority and an overwhelming power for concert instruments. Steve Cowan, who won first prize at the Boston GuitarFest International Competition in 2013, was playing one of my guitars.

Michael Anthony

Each guitar I build is unique. I don’t make “models” per se, but rather, the guitars I make follow particular ‘styles’ or ‘shapes’. No two Anthony Guitars will be exactly alike. They may have the same ‘shape’ (i.e. Jumbo a.k.a. Grand Concert), but the appointments, bracing patterns, cutaway (or no cutaway) will be determined by the purchaser allowing their guitar to truly be a one-of-a-kind.
