FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Boston GuitarFest 2007. What is it?
It's an homage to Latin America. Classical guitarists are always performing Barrios, Ponce, Brouwer, Villa-Lobos, Lauro, Piazzolla, you name it. Boston GuitarFest 2007 will celebrate these various musical cultures under one roof and present various aspects of artistic, political, musical and culinary culture into an exciting week. Be prepared for a GuitarFest experience that will change your world!

Okay! Boston GuitarFest sounds cool! How do I get there?
Boston GuitarFest will be held at New England Conservatory, 290 Huntington Ave., Boston, Massachusetts 02115. NEC is easily accessible by public transport: Green Lines, Orange Line or 39 Bus. (Visit MBTA for more details.) On street metered parking is available around NEC (beware the very nasty parking tickets though) or you may park in the Gainsborough Garage (10 Gainsborough St., (617) 266-7260), directly opposite from the school.

If arriving by plane, Boston's Logan International Airport (BOS) is served by major airlines; public transportation (MBTA) is available from the airport to NEC and takes about 40-50 minutes. An alternative to Logan International is Providence's TF Green Int'l Airport (PVD); travel time from Providence to Boston is approximately 1 hour by car and 50 minutes by Amtrak. Amtrak would likely take you to South Station, which is a short subway ride to NEC, about 20 minutes (give or take).

So I'm coming from a galaxy far, far away and I need a place to stay!
The standard option is at the dorms near school. Click here to view the NEC Summer School Housing information (PDF 15K). We're sorry to note that unaccompanied minors (under 18) are not allowed in the dormitory unless accompanied by a guardian. Of course, being a big travel destination, Boston has plenty of hotels; June is, however, the beginning of travel season so be prepared for low vacancy and high rates. Please plan ahead and book early!

There are other, less conventional options, of course. Try searching for some short-term housing arrangements on Boston's Craigslist. There is also a Youth Hostel nearby and the YCMA is just around the corner. Or, maybe now's also a good time to call your old friends in the area who you're just, uh, dying to reconnect with.

And if I get hungry?
Boston is a huge college town so student grub (affordable pizzas and burgers) stretches as far as the eye can see. Coffee shops have also been sighted often. For those seeking alternatives, there are some ethnic restaurants in the area (Japanese, Thai, Chinese, Indian, , etc.) and for the DIY fans, there are some grocery stores nearby. Here's a map of places to forage.

I have this thing called a job... can I just attend the afternoon and/or evening concerts?
Yes. Tickets to individual events may be purchased at the door on the day of the concert. Reservations are not necessary, though they are certainly welcome--just contact us.

Wait! Did I hear something about a discount?
If you belong to NEC's cultural consortium, you could be entitled to a discount at Boston GuitarFest which may apply to Auditor Fees, Day Passes and individual ticketed events. If your organization is interested in becoming a part of our cultural consortium please contact us!
