New for 2017! Our Boston GuitarFest Academy program is an exclusive, extended prep course for guitarists ages 16-21, running 7 days from June 26-July 2.

Boston GuitarFest XII, “Feria Latina” is proud to introduce a new beta program, Boston GuitarFest Academy, specifically constructed to help serious guitarists ages 16-21 prepare for musical life as a classical guitarist.

Academy Program | Boston GuitarFest 2017 | Fees

Participants will receive:

    • 2 extra days of tailored instruction
    • Masterclass with Eliot Fisk*
    • Lessons and mentoring from BGA faculty Jerome Mouffe and Adam Levin*, as well as NEC and GuitarFest faculty and NEC guitar alumni.
    • Guitar Ensembles, with private coachings and a final performance opportunity on Sunday, July 2
    • Close study with guest artists Grisha Goryachev, Zaira Meneses, and Will Riley, as well as a lesson with Institute Festival Performing Faculty.

    • Exclusive Academy seminars and workshops on topics of:
      • career development
      • technique
      • body mapping for healthy practice
      • finding your voice as a musician
      • competition preparation
      • music theory

  • Free entry into the Academy performance competition, 1st prize: $750, free participation in GuitarFest 2018, and a performance in Jordan Hall.
  • Full access to all Institute Program events, including:
    • Visit to Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts

    • Access to all GuitarFest concerts

    • Seminars, workshops, and Luthiers’ Expo

* Lesson placement based on preference, faculty availability, and audition videos

Academy Competition Guidelines




Admission is on a first-come, first-served basis. Early registration is recommended. Registration includes all festival events, concerts, private lessons, and masterclasses during the days valid for the type of registration purchased. Groupings of small guitar ensembles will be based on experience or request.

** Participants who take part in the competition are not allowed to have lessons with competition judges while they are in the running.

*** Younger students who would like to participate in an older age-level program can submit a music resume listing experience in classical guitar. High school juniors and seniors are encouraged to submit music resumes for proper placement in the Festival.
